Need a break? Look no further than Riverview Spa!

As I am writing this, I am listening to the gentle pitter-patter of the water in the fountain outside our chalet at Riverview Spa in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg. I am totally at peace. The reason? My husband and I have just spent THE MOST AMAZING two days here  relaxing and reinvigorating ourselves.

We arrived yesterday morning and were greeted with a sumptuous menu choice which encompasses everything from muesli and fruit salad to designer omelettes and amazing cappuccinos – have a look at my breakfast from yesterday!

After breakfast, we had to change into our swimming costumes, gowns and slippers. We were then whisked away to  a beautiful  treatment room – one of many at Riverview Spa – that overlooks the river. What’s great about the treatment rooms here is that they are all separate  buildings, which are constructed on a gently sloping hill. This means that you have complete privacy and can’t hear any commercial sounds, like cars or the like. You are given no choice but to relax!

Our first treatment was a shoulder massage followed up by an Indian head massage. The same therapists also gave us a foot treatment which consisted of, among others, a foot scrub as well as a foot massage.

We were then invited to the jacuzzi where the jets bubbled away while we sipped our sparkling wine and surveyed the scenery.

Next we went to the steam room for a mud wrap. We had to exfoliate and then apply the mud solution. After that we needed to sit in the steam room for 10 minutes and then wash the mud off. This was my least favourite treatment as I found that I couldn’t see very much  in the room and couldn’t breathe because of all the steam. We left the room after about a minute.  However,  when we told owner Elmarie about this this morning  she offered us a substitute treatment  – at no cost.

To end off the day yesterday, we had full body massages, a massage lesson from one of the pro therapists on staff here as well as a glorious picnic on the banks of the river.

This morning started off with an aromatherapy full body massage, followed by a facial, another dip in the jacuzzi as well as a manicure for my husband and a pedicure for me.

What has impressed me so much about Riverview Spa  is their attention to detail. All over the property are little touches that take the spa from being good to great. For example,  there is a roaring fireplace and next to this there is a water, tea and coffee station that guests can help themselves and don’t need to wait for someone to serve them. Blankets are also provided everywhere so that – even if you’re feeling the slightest bit chilly – you can wrap up and relax in warmth.

Elmarie and her team go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome and ensure that they leave feeling that they have been pampered. If they can make a plan to ensure that your stay with them is more pleasurable, they will. You also won’t need to mortgage your house to be able to stay here – the rates are very reasonable and you get what you pay for.

I would highly recommend Riverview Spa to anyone wanting to have a break from the Joburg rat race – you won’t be sorry you came!
