Who is Lia Marus?

Lia Marus began her academic career in 2001 at UCT where she completed a BA in National and Foreign Languages (majoring in French, Italian and Linguistics).

 

Between 2004 and 2005, Lia completed an MA in translation. The topic of her research report was Translation in the South African popular media: A case study of YOU and Huisgenoot.

 

In 2006 Lia Marus completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Management at the Wits Business School. She completed her LLB at UNISA in 2018 and Lia is currently working towards her PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Johannesburg, focusing on plain language.

Career Progression

Lia Marus began her career at a corporate communications firm where she was a researcher and proofreader/sub-editor. She moved into the trade and technical publishing field and worked at publishing house as a sub-editor and was later promoted to chief sub-editor.

 

Following this, Lia  moved to a company which published manuals on subjects such as Labour Law and Vat. She edited the Accounting Manual and was responsible for everything from editing it to sourcing new content and developing new product ranges.

 

Lia then moved into the digital publication space where she edited an online publication in the HR space as well as a journal for the HR industry.

 

She currently owns her own editing and writing consultancy where she concentrates on generating blogs for clients, editing manuscripts as well as theses.
