When Life Hits Pause (and You Don’t Want It To)

Learning to wait with grace—even when you’d rather move forward

Yesterday, I spoke about that frustrating space in between—you know, when one gig ends and you’re kicking yourself for not lining up the next thing sooner. It’s like being stuck up a long river without a paddle… or worse, without a plan.

Here’s a bit of real talk:

I live with a genetic disorder called Cowden Syndrome. One of its more charming quirks is that bits of tissue grow where they really shouldn’t. The latest part of my body to fall prey? My thyroid.

For context, each thyroid lobe should be around 4cm. Mine? Right lobe: 8cm. Left lobe: 6.25cm. Overachiever, clearly.

Naturally, this has brought some unwelcome symptoms—difficulty swallowing and random coughing that isn’t reflux, allergies, or anything else easily fixable. But the good news? It’s being removed on 7 August.

There’s a small risk my voice might change a little post-surgery—maybe even become huskier. I’m choosing to see that as a potential voiceover side hustle in the making.

Learning to wait

Here’s the deeper truth I’m sitting with:
Right now, I’m in a waiting season. I can still take on short-term projects (and I will, with both hands), but anything longer-term will have to wait until I’m back to full capacity.

And that’s OK.

Sometimes, life calls for a pause—not because you’ve done something wrong or missed a step, but because something needs to shift. So don’t resist it. Don’t scramble to force something to happen just because you feel behind.

Let the moment play out.

What’s meant for you won’t pass you by. It will arrive when you’re truly ready to receive it.
